13U Sweeps Tourny To Win Championship

13's Go 6-0 For Tourny Win

The 13U Dynamos traveled to Enfield, CT this weekend to faceoff in the EHF Showcase Invitational. The team rolled into the weekend with a 15-1-0 record, although they were coming off a 4-3 OT loss to the Rochester Coalition in the championship game of the Rochester Invitational the previous weekend. The Dynamo beat the Coalition 4-1 earlier in the same tournament and were looking to redeem themselves this weekend.
The team came out strong, rattling off wins against the NJ Rockets, Islanders Hockey Club, South Florida Academy, and the Philadelphia Hockey Club to enter the semifinals Monday against the Palmyra Knights. The Dynamo came away with a 5-1 victory to earn a birth in the championship game against the New Jersey Hitmen.
The opening period was tight, as both teams played a hard hitting, defensively sound game in the first period which ended tied 0-0. A strong net drive to the outside by forward Caleb Leahey midway through the second frame resulted in a powerplay for the Dynamo as he was pulled down from behind. The Dynamo worked the powerplay and eventually found defenseman Caeden Herrington for a strong slapshot from the point which was saved and picked up by forward Stanley Hastings who got the Dynamo on the board 1-0 with a wraparound that beat the opposing goalie to the left side of the net. The Dynamo then went up 2-0 after a strong forecheck resulted in a Riley Lephart snapshot beating the goalie to the top corner over his glove off assists from Jack Martin and Colton Shaver. The team used strong overall defensive zone play and continued hard work up and down the lineup in all three zones to close out the third period and win the game by a score of 2-0.
Goaltenders Logan Weber and Caleb Murray combined for three shutouts out of the six games of the tournament. The team as a whole scored 24 goals, while only allowing four. The 13U’s are now 21-1-0. We are very proud of the team's effort and look forward to continued development. Congratulations Team!
